Another Xiaomi phone poses a greater danger to the Redmi 13C 5G than a Samsung or Realme device

While Xiaomi may go to considerable measures to claim that the Redmi 13C 5G is the greatest entry-level 5G smartphone available right now, at least in some regions, this is untrue. Although its appearance and feature set may be competitive, the Redmi 13C 5G is not an excellent value for money—a trait Redmi phones have mastered over the years—especially when you consider its “net effective” pricing schemes. And no, neither a Samsung nor a Realme is to blame. The Redmi 12 5G, a recently released phone from Xiaomi, poses the largest danger to the Redmi 13C’s survival.

It’s not even necessary to wait for reviews to determine which phone is superior. It is that simple. Moreover, it’s astonishing that a phone like the Redmi 13C 5G is even available in late 2023–24, regardless of whether we’ve passed the “5G tax” or not. Indeed, Xiaomi (like the Redmi 12 5G) announced it first in India. And that too, following a brief hiatus, we may add when one of the new Redmi Notes should have been the product to kickstart the company’s portfolio. A product launch is troubled when the most exciting announcement is about a product that hasn’t been released yet. (Warning: there will be spoilers ahead. The Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus will officially debut in India in January 2024.)

In all honesty, Xiaomi has had this placement issue ever since the Redmi 10 Prime launch. That happened in 2021. Furthermore, it seems that the competition to provide 5G at “affordable” costs has made matters worse. The Redmi 13C 5G’s Dimensity 6100 Plus CPU is without a doubt its greatest attraction. The 6-nanometer system-on-a-chip (SoC) from MediaTek is marketed as having the ability to mainstream 5G connectivity. The Realme 11 series, which was followed by the Narzo 60x, was one of the first to commercially release it after its announcement in July. We haven’t seen the chip in use since then. At least compared to the 4-nanometer Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, it is more widely available. It was possible that the Redmi 13C 5G would run on the 4 Gen 2, much as the Redmi 12 5G, but Xiaomi chose a different path, which now makes perfect sense.

In any case, the Dimensity 6100 Plus also supports up to 108-megapixel camera sensors and 10-bit 90Hz or 120Hz displays. The 6.74-inch, 720p LCD of the Redmi 13C 5G is sharp. However, Xiaomi claims that the display can refresh at much to 90Hz per second. It is also protected by an unidentified variant of Corning Gorilla Glass. It features a single 50-megapixel camera on the back. LPDDR4x RAM with UFS2.2 storage, an Android 13 operating system, a dedicated micro-SD expansion slot, a 5MP front camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 18W Type-C charging round out the package. For that last portion, Xiaomi has a bone to pick.

When the Redmi 13C 5G goes on sale, a 10W charging brick will be included in the package. Xiaomi updated the product listing page to reflect the change. We use the word “change” because Redmi phones, like these, often come with a quicker 22.5W charger installed in the box. Redmi 12 5G is a well-known example. It comes with a free 22.5W charger and supports 18W rapid charging. At the very least, one might claim that it’s not a Samsung with no included charger and 25W charging capabilities. It’s not entirely unexpected, however, since Xiaomi has been known to sell one peculiar Redmi phone—the Redmi Note 11 SE—without one at least in the past. However, it’s an issue that cannot be ignored.

“Power adapters that support 18W charging are sold separately; it is recommended to use 18W or above power adapters that support PD charging,” the Redmi 13C 5G description further states.
